In times of transformation: A midwife, a mother in labor and a baby to be born

I found myself often thinking about midwifery as a metaphor for my life as a woman. Frequently in times of transition, as during the pregnancy and birthing of my three children, but also while moving to Canada, when pursuing new dreams and projects, when with clients as an EAT, and ultimately when I feel changes in my own self -even if there is no external manifestation-, this image comes to life.  The amazing fact though,  is that this metaphor is three dimensional.  The deeper the transformation, the more vivid is the sense that in those times one becomes not only the midwife to oneself, but also the mother in labor and the baby about to be born. There is always awe, mystery and pain, strong feelings and love in this experience from each side of this  "trinity". If we do not resist the process, it always brings true joy. From the Tao Te Ching:

"You are a midwife, assisting at someone else’s birth. Do good without show or fuss. Facilitate what is happening rather than what you think ought to be happening. If you must take the lead, lead so that the mother is helped, yet still free and in charge. When the baby is born, the mother will rightly say: “We did it ourselves!”
